  • Do I need to uninstall Nokia PC Suite before installing Nokia Suite?

No, you do not need to uninstall Nokia PC Suite to be able to install Nokia Suite. However, it is recommended that you do not have them both running simultaneously on your computer

Also, the Nokia Suite installer will disable PC Suite if it is running in the background. From there you can proceed in installing Nokia Suite on to your computer.

  • What will happen to Nokia PC Suite?

Nokia PC Suite is being replaced by Nokia Suite(earlier known as Nokia Ovi Suite), which is the newer and more user-friendly application for Windows.

Nokia is not developing PC Suite anymore.

With Nokia Suite, you can connect your computer and your phone. Keeping important information up to date on your phone and on your computer is simple, and you can  transfer music, and download free street maps to your phone with ease. Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Suite can be installed on the same computer, but you should not use them simultaneously. Note that the latest Nokia phones are supported only by Nokia Suite.

  • How to create a new synchronisation task in Nokia PC Suite 7.1?

Creating a new synchronisation task involves selecting the PC application that you want to synchronise with a phone, and defining synchronisation settings. If you do not make changes to the synchronisation settings, the settings for the last selected synchronisation task will be used. To create a new synchronisation task follow the steps:

  1. Connect a Nokia device to the PC.
  2. Click the Nokia PC Sync icon and then click Settings icon.
  3. Click Create new settings icon.
  4. On the first page of the wizard, select the new PIM application from the drop-down list. Follow the instructions on screen to finish the wizard process. If you choose to skip the wizard process, a set of default settings will be used in the synchronisation.
  • On the What To Synchronise page, you can specify what information to include in the synchronisation.
  • On the PIM specific page, you can enter information about the PIM application you have selected.
  • On the Synchronisation Range page, you can specify the settings for synchronising Calendar/To-do items. If you did not select Calendar / To-do Items on the What To Synchronise page, this page will not be shown.
  • On the E-mail page, you can specify settings for synchronising e-mails. If you did not select E-mail Items on the What To Synchronise page, this page will not be shown.
  • On the Bookmarks page, you can specify the settings for synchronising Bookmark Items or Bookmarks and RSS Feeds depending on the phone model. If you did not select Bookmark Items or Bookmarks and RSS Feeds on the What To Synchronise page, this page will not be shown.
  • On the File Synchronisation Settings page, you can specify the settings for synchronising File and Folder Items. If you did not select File and Folder Items on the What To Synchronise page, this page will not be shown.
  • To view the advanced settings used in the synchronisation, click Advanced... on the Finish page.
  1. The new synchronisation will start when you click Finish on the last page. If you do not want to start the synchronisation, clear the selection in the check box at the bottom of the page.

In Advanced settings you see the followings tabs:

  1. Automatic Synchronisation tab
  • Do not synchronise automatically 
    Nokia PC Sync will not synchronise automatically with your phone. You will have to start the synchronisation manually whenever you want to synchronise a phone with your PC PIM.
  • Synchronise every time I connect my phone 
    Nokia PC Sync will synchronise automatically with your phone each time you connect the phone to the PC.
  • Synchronise periodically while the phone is connected 
    You can specify in hours or minutes how often Nokia PC Sync will synchronise automatically with a phone. This only occurs while the phone is connected.
  • Launch Nokia PC Sync automatically on startup 
    Select this option if you want to launch Nokia PC Sync automatically every time you start your PC.
  1. Conflict Resolution tab

It is possible that you have modified an item on your mobile phone and on the PC. Here you can specify whether information is to be synchronised from your mobile phone to the PC or vice versa if a field of an item has been changed on both databases. Select the database that you want to synchronise information from:

  • Mobile phone
  • PC, a specific PC PIM application or a web browser, depending on the information types you have selected for synchronisation. For example, if you have selected to synchronise only Calendar / To-do Items, the PC PIM in use is displayed here as an option.
  1. Direction tab

You can specify the direction of the synchronisation. You can update information to both directions in synchronisation, only from a mobile phone to the PC, or only from the PC to a mobile phone.

  1. Sync Profile tab
  • Username 
    Enter here the username for your sync profile if needed. If you have defined a username here, you must use the same username in the phone. If you have not defined a username in the phone, you do not need to enter it here either.
  • Password 
    Enter here the password for your sync profile if needed. If you have defined a password here, you must use the same password in the phone. If you have not defined a password in the phone, you do not need to enter it here either.

  • Why is PC Suite taking so long to find my Nokia device via Bluetooth?

The Bluetooth media module searches for all the devices that have been paired with the PC. If some of these devices are no longer within range, the search may take a while. To prevent this from happening, you can use the unpairing function to clear the unwanted devices from the list.

  • I updated Nokia PC Suite, and I am no longer able to establish the connection between the PC and my Nokia device.

To try and solve this problem, do the following:
1) Select Start > Settings > Control Panel, and double-click Add or Remove Programs.
2) In the Add or Remove Programs window, search the list of currently installed programs for PC Connectivity Solution.
3) Select PC Connectivity Solution, and click the Change button. The PC Connectivity Solution Maintenance Program opens.
4) In the maintenance program, click Repair. Then wait for the operation to be completed.
5) Restart your PC, and try to connect your device to the PC again.

To export you Text Messages (SMS) from your Nokia Device and store them in a .csv file, please do the following:

3. Select Your Nokia Device and then select Inbox.
4. Right click in the right hands side of the window.
5. Select "Export Messages"
6. Nokia PC Suite will promt for a location to save the .csv file.

If you need to remove PC Suite (including all components), follow the steps below:

Note: close any PC Suite applications that are running before you begin.

Windows XP:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Scroll through the list of installed applications, then click Nokia PC Suite
  4. Click the Add/Remove button.
  5. Click the Uninstall button from the Nokia PC Suite window, then follow the on-screen instructions until the setup wizard has completed removed the program.
  6. Restart your computer to complete the removal process.

Windows Vista / Windows 7:

  1. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs, then click Uninstall a program.
  3. Select Nokia PC Suite from the list of installed programs, then click Uninstall/Change.
  4. Confirm that you want to remove the Nokia PC Suite program from your PC.
  5. Restart your computer to complete the removal process.

Creating a Custom Contact List

If you have more contacts in your Personal Information Manager (PIM) than your phone book memory can hold, synchronizing may overload your phone book memory.

You can create a custom contact list or subset of your master contact list containing only the information you want in your phone. Depending on the PIM application you use, you may need to create a new contact database file or create a new folder to store the custom contact list.

Configuring for Outlook users

Microsoft Outlook users can create folders and sub-folders in their Outlook database files. To create a custom contact list, first create a new folder to store contacts. Then copy the desired contact information from your main contacts folder to the new folder. Nokia PC Suite 7.1 PC Sync allows you to synchronize your phone with the Outlook contacts folder of your choosing.

Create a new folder for phone Contacts

  1. Open MS Outlook
  2. Click File 
  3. Click Folder 
  4. Select New Folder
  5. Type the name of your new folder (for example, Phone list).
  6. Click the Folder contains drop-down arrow, then click Contact Items.
  7. Select a location for your new folder (for example, click Contacts to make Phone list a subfolder of your Contacts folder).
  8. Click OK to confirm your selection.

  1. Open PC Suite
  2. Open Nokia PC Synch by clicking on Synchronize icon
  3. Click on Settings icon
  4. Click on Create new settings icon
  5. Follow wizard and on step 3/6 Outlook profile selection click on Select folders icon
  6. Choose the desired folder for contacts.
  7. Finish wizard

Nokia Content Copier allows you to back up your phone's contents on a PC. You can back up the entire contents, or select what you want to back up. Backing up regularly helps you to avoid losing important data. You can select which content types to back up or restore.

To open Nokia Content Copier follow the steps:

  • I have connected my phone to the PC with Toshiba Bluetooth and Nokia PC suite cannot see the phone.

Check that you have only one phone connected to the PC. Right-click the PC Sync icon on the Windows taskbar (next to the clock) and select Phone Selector from the pop-up menu.

If you cannot see any phones in the list or if your connected phone is displayed in grey text, update your Toshiba Bluetooth stack. The latest Toshiba Bluetooth stack can be downloaded from the Toshiba website.

  • Why does Nokia PC Suite display the message: "Nokia device connected in non-compatible mode"?

Your device has more than one mode for using the cable connection. Examples of different modes are: Media transfer, Mass storage, PC Suite, Media player, Image Transfer, Image Print, Data transfer, and Default mode. The available options in USB or data cable mode settings vary according to device model. Usually by default user should be prompted to select a mode when attaching the USB cable. If no prompt is given, you can check the mode in use from phone settings. Refer to the user guide and or online resources of your device for detailed instructions.

To establish a connection between your device and the PC running PC Suite, do the following:

  1. On your device, navigate to MENU > SETTINGS > CONNECTIVITY > USB or data cable settings. Please refer to the user guide of your device for the exact location of this folder.
  2. Select the cable connection mode in one of the following ways:
  •  Select "PC Suite", "Nokia mode", or "Default mode" as the default cable connection mode.
  •  Alternatively, set your device to "Ask on connection". This way, the device asks for the desired connection mode every time you connect the cable.
  1. Connect the device to the PC using your cable.

Note: Make sure you are using the correct PC Suite version, some older models and most CDMA phones need specific PC Suite.

  • Can I delete the temporary files of Nokia PC Suite?

It is recommended that you do not delete the MSI temp file (Microsoft Installer).  Deleting the MSI makes it impossible to uninstall the software application from the PC. You have probably already installed Nokia PC Suite on your computer and you are trying to install an older PC Suite version. Try to uninstall the following Nokia PC Suite components manually before installing Nokia PC Suite again:

2) Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
3) Nokia PC Suite
After uninstalling, reboot your PC.

The components listed above can be uninstalled from Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
