E-mailing and attachments




You can handle your e-mail straight from the E55. Learn how to set up different types of e-mail accounts with the e-mail wizard, and you’ll be able to receive both your business e-mail and personal e-mail on your device.


For business e-mail, Nokia’s corporate mobile email solutions are Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler.

Nokia messaging service

Nokia Messaging is Nokia's consumer messaging service. With access to personal e-mail you can get Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and other e-mail automatically delivered to your Nokia E55, with or without notifications. Depending on your country and service provider, you may be able to use Nokia Messaging. If the Nokia Messaging service is available in your country, it will appear as an option within the email set-up wizard when you start setting up your e-mail.

The Nokia Messaging service is not yet available in every country. Please check the availability from your service provider.

Setting up e-mail with the e-mail wizard

Your device supports most of the existing Internet email accounts. You can use the e-mail wizard to set up your email if you are using one of the popular free email services or if your email supports POP or IMAP protocol.

Set up your e-mail

  1. From the home screen Select Set up e-mail, and press the scroll key. To confirm your selection, select Start e-mail setup.
  2. To continue the set-up, select Start.
  3. Select the internet email service provider from the list.
  4. Enter your e-mail address and password and select Ok.
    • If you wish to have your emails delivered automatically to your device, select Accept.
    • If you wish to fetch your emails manually, select Decline.
  5. After the wizard has completed, you can adjust the settings. Select Options > Settings > Mailbox settings.
    • To get the right settings, contact your e-mail service provider for the information.

Tip!

Use the E-mail key in your device to get quick access to your e-mails.

  • To open your default mailbox, press the E-mail key briefly.
  • To create a new e-mail message, press the E-mail key for a few seconds.


Mail for exchange

Mail for Exchange is used especially to bring your business e-mail to your device.

Before starting make sure that your company has Microsoft Exchange Server. You may also need to contact your company’s IT administrator to activate Mail for Exchange for your account, and to give you other additional information needed to install Mail for Exchange.

Install Mail for exchange:

  1. From the home screen Select Set up e-mail, and press the scroll key. To confirm your selection, select Start e-mail setup.
  2. To continue the set-up, select Start.
  3. Select Mail for Exhange from the list.
  4. Enter E-mail address, Password, User name and Domain, and select Next.
  5. Enter Mail for Exhange server name, and select Next.
  6. To continue, select OK.
  7. Select what do you want to sync, and select Next.

Adjust e-mail settings

You can adjust different settings for your e-mail. If you have set up more than one mailbox, you can choose which one is your default mailbox.

Adjust e-mail settings:

  1. Select Menu > Nokia E-mail.
  2. Select Settings > Global settings. You can adjust from the following:
    • Message list layout – Select whether the e-mail messages in the Inbox display one or two lines of text.
    • Body text preview – Select whether to preview messages when scrolling through the list of e-mail messages in the Inbox.
    • Title dividers – Select On to be able to expand and collapse the list of e-mail messages.
    • Download notifications – Select whether to have the device display a notification when an e-mail attachment has been downloaded.
    • Warn before delete – Select if you want a warning before you delete a message.
    • Load HTML images – Select Always ask or Automatic for loading HTML images in the messages.
    • Home screen – Define how many lines of e-mail are shown in the home screen information area.

Change your default mailbox:

  1. Select Menu > Messaging.
  2. Select Options > Settings > E-mail.
  3. Select Default mailbox, and choose the default mailbox from the list.

Change the default mailbox of the E-mail key:

  1. Select Menu > Ctrl. Panel > Settings.
  2. Select General > E-mail key settings > Default setting.
  3. Select the desired mailbox from the list of your installed mailboxes.

Read and reply to e-mail

To read an e-mail, go to your mailbox. You can use the E-mail key or select Menu > Messaging > your mailbox.

  • Read received e-mail – Open the message from the mailbox.
    • Note that if you are using a service other than Nokia Email, an e-mail addressed to you is not automatically received by your device. In that case, first connect to your remote mailbox. Select your mailbox > Options > Connect.
  • Reply only to the sender – Select Options > Actions > Reply > To sender.
  • Reply to all recipients – Select Options > Actions > Reply > To all.
  • Forward an e-mail - select Options > Actions > Forward.


Write and send e-mail

To write a new e-mail, go to your mailbox.

  1. Select Options > Create e-mail.
  2. Insert the e-mail’s recipient(s).
    • You can enter the e-mail addresses directly in the To field.
    • Use a semicolon to separate entries
    • If you want to import e-mail addresses from Contacts, select Add.
  3. You can use the Cc field to send a copy to other recipients.
  4. Enter the subject of the e-mail in the Subject field.
  5. Enter your e-mail message in the text area.
  6. Select Options > Send.

Manage attachments

To open an attachment attached to an e-mail:

  • Open the e-mail that has the attachment.
  • Scroll to the attachment and press the scroll key.


To attach a file:

  • When in new e-mail, select Options > Add attachment
  • Select which memory the attachment is found in
  • Select the attachment you want to add.


If you want to open the attachment, select the attachment area and scroll to the right with the scroll key. Select Open.

To delete an attachment from an e-mail that you are sending, select the attachment and Options > Remove attachment, or select the attachment area and scroll to the right, and select Remove attachment.
