Get familiar with your phone
Easy redial
Press the green Call key in the standby mode to view the most recently dialled numbers. Scroll to a number or name, and press the Call key again to call the number.
Copy and paste
You can select pieces of text for copying and pasting. Select text with the scroll key while pressing and holding the # key and select Copy. Copied text can be pasted by pressing the # key down and selecting Paste.
Switch Silent on/off
To quickly switch between general and silent profiles, press and hold the # key in standby view.
Quick profile change
You can quickly change the profile by pressing the power key briefly and selecting the desired profile from the list.
Dial by voice
The Nokia E51 features Enhanced voice commands. You can dial numbers by pressing and holding the Voice key and saying the name in the address book after the tone.
Go offline
In situations where phone use is prohibited, such as on flights as instructed by airlines, you can still use the Music Player, play games etc. using the Offline mode. Go to Profiles and select Offline, or press the Power key briefly and select a profile from the list.
Faster with one-touch keys
Your Nokia E51 has four customizable keys for main menu/standby view, Contacts, e-mail and Calendar. Your network operator may have assigned applications to the keys, in which case you cannot change them.

Get the most out of Calendar
When viewing Calendar in any view, press (*) to quickly switch to another view. You can also synchronize your calendar data with a compatible computer using the Nokia PC Suite application.
Get content with Download!
Download! is a mobile content shop available on your phone. With Download! you can purchase content, such as games, ringing tones, wallpapers, services, and applications. The available content depends on your network operator and service provider. Go to the shop by choosing Menu > Download!.
The alarm clock stays awake
The alarm clock works even if you set the power off. If the alarm time is reached while the phone is switched off, the phone switches itself on and starts sounding the alarm tone.
Backup important data with Ovi Suite
Data which is not backed up/synchronised cannot be retrieved if it gets erased due to any reason.
Synchronise and backup your information using the Nokia Ovi Suite.
Tips for safer use
Secure connectivity via VPN
With the VPN client, your phone connects from a mobile network to a corporate VPN gateway that acts as a front door to the corporate network. IPSec is used to create a secure tunnel over unsecured IP networks. To use VPN, you will need a VPN policy. Ask your corporate network administrator about the use of VPN.
Name Bluetooth devices
To give a nickname to a paired device that is only displayed in your phone, scroll to the device, press Options, and select Assign short name. To delete pairing with a device, scroll to the device and press Clear.
Prevent unauthorized use
You can enhance security by locking your Nokia E51. Select Tool > Settings > General > Security > Phone and SIM card > Lock code and create a 5-digit lock code. Be sure to memorize it. To lock the phone, press the Power key briefly, select Lock phone, and enter the code. To unlock your phone, you wil need to enter the code again.
Remote locking
If your phone is stolen or gets lost, you can lock it (and the memory card) remotely by sending a lock code via SMS.
Keypad lock
Use the keypad lock (keyguard) to prevent the keys on the phone from being pressed accidentally. To lock the keypad, first press the left selection key and then the * key. To unlock the keypad, repeat the same sequence.
Tips for longer battery life
To prolong the operating time of your phone, turn the Bluetooth technology off when you do not need it. To close all the unused applications that are not running in the background, press and hold the menu key, scroll on an application in the list and press the Clear key.
Back up to a memory card
To back up information from the phone memory to a compatible memory card, select Menu > Tools > Memory. Then select Options > Back up phone memory. The phone notifies you if the memory card does not have enough free space to create a back-up. To restore the backed up information, select Options > Restore from card.
E-mail tips
Spice up your messaging
Creating and sending a multimedia message (MMS) is similar to sending a text message, with the exception that you can also insert different media items such as images, video clips, and audio.
Sending e-mail attachments
To attach a file such as spreadsheet, text document or presentation to an e-mail, select Options > Insert and select a file type to attach. The office documents can be found in Other files.
Enhance your e-mail
You can set up your e-mail to manage meeting request in your calendar. The Nokia E51 supports several third-party e-mail solutions as well.
Mobile browsing
Connecting to the Web
To connect to the Web, you must configure the Internet access point and Internet connection settings. Contact your service provider for the correct settings. In many cases, these settings are retrieved automatically.
Shortcut to Web
To start the web browser, press and hold the 0 key in the standby mode.
Where was that page?
As you browse, the Auto bookmark feature keeps track of the pages you visit, making it easy to get back to them later. You can manage your bookmarks in Options > Bookmarks.
Keys to faster browsing
Press 1 to open your Bookmarks, press 3 to return to the previous page, press 6 to switch between your open browser windows and press 9 to go to a different Web page.
Page history
You can enter the history view also via the Options menu under Navigation options.
